Custom carpentry, Fairfax, CA
Furniture and built-ins that fit the room you actually have.
Handcrafted cabinetry, benches, and architectural woodwork, built one piece at a time for homes across Marin County.
Built by hand, from an engineer's habits.
Every piece starts with the room, not a catalog.
Originally from Sweden, I've always been drawn to what can be made from natural materials. After twenty years as a mechanical engineer in the Bay Area, I now put that same attention to detail into custom carpentry — furniture and built-ins made for the exact room, and the exact family, they're going into.
Bring an idea, a napkin sketch, or a full rendering from an industrial designer. Any of those is enough to start.
Selected work
Seven rooms, seven different problems, all photographed from the finished work.
A living room built around a fire
To replace a wide, characterless wall, we built a thin-brick fireplace into the corner, framed by a custom oak bench with cabinetry beneath, sized around a 30-inch ethanol burner. Cable and power run in-wall, so the TV and speakers show no cords, and consoles route through the bench and stay out of sight. Above, a floating shelf carries LED lighting and oak that matches the bench below.
A banquette for a farmhouse table
Cantilevered from the wall to make sweeping up crumbs easy, this oak banquette seats a family and a few guests comfortably, with no legs touching the floor. Built for a home aiming at a warm, farmhouse feel, it's strong enough to hold a full row of adults and light enough to keep the room open.
Slatted oak, dividing without closing off
An oak slat partition gives this entryway its own sense of arrival, without cutting it off from the rooms around it. Light and sound still pass through; the space just reads as its own.
A living wall that skips the floor space
Custom-built to mount on any wall, this rack holds hanging planters and brings greenery into a room without taking up a single square foot of floor. Made to order in any size or shape.
Floating shelves for the pantry
Custom oak shelves, floating rather than boxed in, give this pantry a place for the bulky items and decorative platters that otherwise clutter the counter, and keep them all within easy reach.
Oak beams to match what was already there
Matched to oak beams already present elsewhere in the room, these beams help break up the space around a skylight and add a detail that looks like it was always meant to be there.
From odd angles to a working mudroom
An empty room with awkward angled walls became a mudroom with a bench and a storage bookshelf, giving a family a place to sit down, put on shoes, and keep the everyday mess organized before heading out the door.
